AstraZeneca (AZ) today announced that it has signed a $3.9 million upfront and cash payment to Pfizer for a research and development agreement. This agreement, which was announced on November 26, will bring AZ's cholesterol and triglyceride business to the $2.5 billion market in 2021.
Pfizer had previously disclosed that its research program focused on the ability to prevent heart disease, and AZ's first-in-category cholesterol product, Crestor, is also a significant advancement in this area. AZ plans to pursue further studies on how Crestor improves cardiovascular outcomes.
