Crestor, a generic drug used to treat some types of high cholesterol, has lost the patent on its cholesterol-lowering drug Crestor.

The FDA is advising patients to stop taking the cholesterol-lowering drugs because of the increased risk of heart attacks and strokes.
“While there is no evidence that Crestor will prevent heart disease, there is an increased risk of heart attack and stroke,” the FDA says. “We encourage patients to consult with their primary care physician about the potential benefits and risks of Crestor, especially if they have heart disease or are taking other medications.”
According to the FDA, patients taking the medication should take it for at least six months to see if they are getting the desired benefits.
